OYAMA IKF European Championships in Estonia

Russian domination in Kumite, Polish supremacy in Kata.

  

Between May 14-15th 2011, OYAMA International Karate Federation organized its Open European Championships in kata, knockdown and semi-knockdown. Tournament took place in Johvi-Estonia. Mr Aivar Surva, Mayor of Mäetaguse Parish Government and Hanshi Jan Dyduch, Chairman of OYAMA IKF took patronage over the tournament. Sensei Valeriy Savitskiy 3rd dan from the Estonia Oyama Karate Federation organized this tournament that gathered around 170 competitors. Eight countries participated in the tournament. We had representatives from: Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Germany, Ireland and Azerbaijan affiliated with OYAMA IKF, Kyokushin IFK and Kyokushin-Matsushima. Unfortunately competitors from: India, Pakistan, Armenia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have not received European visa. 

Saturday morning started with presentations of kata and kobudo forms on two tatami. Same day, afternoon was reserved for prestigious knockdown tournament. Sunday was planed for the Junior European Championships in Semi-knockdown competition.

The opening ceremony was conducted by Mr Aivar Surva, Mayor of Mäetaguse Parish Government and Hanshi Jan Dyduch. Director of OYAMA IKF sincerely thanked the city officials for organizing  the championships as well as for an honorary patronage. Hanshi Dyduch presented his gratitude towards the host of the tournament – Sensei Valeriy Savitskiy 3rd dan and presented him with a black belt and a certificate for 3rd dan, awarded by Soshu Shigeru Oyama 10th dan.

Many thanks for help in organizing the tournament were also directed towards the OYAMA IKF Director of sports division – Sensei Igor Gubaydulin 4th dan (Russia). Sensei Igor Gubaydulin also received a certificate for 4th dan from Hanshi Jan Dyduch. Just like Sensei’s Savitzky’s, certificate was granted by Soshu Shigeru Oyama during the International Training-Qualifying Meeting in Poland.

During the artistic part of the tournament a dancing group of youth from Estonia gave an excellent display of their skills. The tournament was well organized and conducted with full coverage of regional journalists from television, radio and press.
 

Duties of Head referee of  European Championships in  Kata and Kobudo were given to Shihan Pawel Pajdak 5th dan (Poland).  Shihan was assisted by Sensei Igor Jurkevich 2nd
dan (Belarus). Duties of Head referee of European Championships in Knockdown and Semi-knockdown was Sensei Igor Gubaydulin 4th dan (Russia).

As was predicted the European Championships in knockdown and semi-knockdown were dominated by Russians and in technical competitions by Polish. In Semi-knockdown and Knockdown Russians won altogether 37 medals including 17 gold. Their 12 year old fighter Mark Wologdin was named star of the tournament.

On the other hand in Kata and Kobudo Polish representatives won 39 medals!, including 14 gold. Among those: Klaudia Malinowska, Marin Klosek, Magdalena Karaszewska, Mateusz Kosturek and Anna Majczak won European Championships in both technical disciplines.

Ukrainian fighter also presented themselves from a good side. They won 8 medals including two gold medals in boys kumite. Anastasia Aismunt deserves special admiration. This talented girl won two silver medals: kata and kumite in older junior female category.
